How Does One Start Contract Work?

 From: Reddit

I'm a Senior Engineer and have enough experience developing and shipping complete products. I keep reading about everyone suggesting contract work in these tough times and figured I can do this on my own.

I am confident in my skills, but how do I even begin to look for contract work? Is it just on websites like indeed/stackoverflow jobs, by selecting the "contract" filter?

It's all so vague, any personal experiences that you could share would help a lot!

EDIT: To the downvoter, thanks.

Twitter/X stands as one of the leading platforms for sharing ideas, connecting with others, and building your personal brand. With the right strategies, you can transform your Twitter presence into a thriving community of engaged followers. In this blog post, I'll dive into proven techniques to help you increase your Twitter followers and create a meaningful online presence.

1. Engaging Content is Key: Consistency is the cornerstone of any successful Twitter growth strategy. Regularly sharing engaging content keeps your audience interested and connected. Whether it's thought-provoking questions, insightful quotes, or industry news, tailor your content to your target audience's interests.

2. The Power of Hashtags: Incorporating relevant hashtags into your tweets can dramatically expand their reach. Research and use popular hashtags related to your niche to join conversations and attract a wider audience to your profile.

3. Crafting Quality Tweets: It's not just about quantity; the quality of your tweets matters too. Share valuable information, useful tips, and compelling stories that resonate with your audience. A well-crafted tweet has the potential to go viral, greatly increasing your visibility.

4. Meaningful Interactions: Engaging with your followers and other Twitter users is vital. Respond to comments, retweet interesting content, and initiate conversations. Genuine interactions foster a sense of community and encourage others to follow you.

5. Visual Appeal: In a sea of text, visual content stands out. Incorporate images, GIFs, and videos into your tweets to capture attention and convey your message more effectively.

6. Follow and Be Followed: Follow accounts relevant to your interests and industry. Many users reciprocate by following back. But remember, it's not just about quantity – aim for quality connections that align with your goals.

7. Collaborate and Network: Participate in Twitter chats, collaborate with other users on projects, and engage with influencers. This not only increases your visibility but also helps you connect with like-minded individuals.

8. Harness the Power of Contests: Organize contests or giveaways that require participants to follow your account. This can generate buzz and attract new followers who are eager to engage with your content.

9. Optimize Your Profile: Your profile is your digital identity. Ensure it's appealing and informative by using a clear profile picture, an intriguing bio, and a relevant cover photo. Make sure your profile reflects your brand's personality.

10. Tweet Timing Matters: Knowing when your audience is most active is crucial. Tweeting at optimal times increases the likelihood of your content being seen and shared.

11. Embrace Trending Topics: Stay current by participating in discussions around trending topics. Your thoughtful insights can attract attention from a broader audience and potentially gain you more followers.

12. Invest in Twitter Ads: For a more targeted approach, consider using Twitter's advertising features. Promote your account to specific demographics and expand your follower base.

13. Be Consistently On-brand: A consistent brand identity helps users recognize and remember you. Maintain a consistent tone, style, and theme across your tweets to create a cohesive and memorable presence.

Building a substantial and engaged Twitter following takes time and effort. Focus on providing value, forging connections, and engaging authentically with your audience. By implementing these strategies, you'll be well on your way to becoming a Twitter influencer with a strong and growing community of followers.

Guide to Emotional Intelligence At Work

 From: https://www.fastcompany.com/90759802/the-ultimate-science-backed-guide-to-emotional-intelligence-at-work.

5 KEY EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE SKILLS AND TRAITS

Psychologist Daniel Goleman, author of the groundbreaking book Emotional Intelligence: Why It Can Matter More Than IQ, outlined a number of personality and behavioral traits he uses to evaluate emotional intelligence:

  • Self Awareness involves the ability to recognize your own emotions, choices, and actions, as well as their potential effects on others. People with a high degree of self-awareness have a solid understanding of their own emotions, strengths, weaknesses, and drivers. They’re honest with themselves and others and know their values and goals. They’re confident but aware of their limitations, and are willing to speak about themselves in a frank, non-defensive manner.
  • Self-regulation refers to the ability to process and express emotions constructively, adapt to changes flexibly, and manage conflict effectively. People who are good at self-regulation are able to manage their emotions so that they don’t control their words and actions. While they feel bad moods and impulses as much as anyone, they don’t rush to action. They tend to be reflective, thoughtful, and comfortable with ambiguity, uncertainty, and change.
  • Social Skills mean you’re an active listener and a strong communicator who can form high-trust relationships. People with social skills are excellent team players who can move an agenda along and keep focus while also remaining aware of the emotional climate of the group and responding as needed. They’re excellent at making connections, networking, and bringing people together to work on projects.
  • Empathy allows you to interpret other people’s emotions and respond in a compassionate and validating way. Having empathy doesn’t mean you’re unwilling or unable to make tough decisions for fear of hurting someone’s feelings. It simply means you’re aware of those feelings and take into consideration the impact of your words and actions. Empathetic people are willing to share their own worries and concerns and openly acknowledge others’ emotions.
  • Motivation refers to the drive to pursue your goals, seek out learning experiences, and continue to evolve as a person.

Review and reflect.

Think back on your interactions periodically with emotional intelligence in mind. Consider what went well and what could have gone better. Remember that any progress is a win and will keep you moving in the right direction.

Ralph F

"Since attending the 40x50 PJP Course and working with Andy Wergedal to re-organize my resume following the PJP resume template, I am now receiving literally dozens of responses and expressions of interest from a variety of potential employers. Although I have a Ph.D. and my previous experiences include a record of successful project deliveries and accomplishments, I could not understand why I wasn’t getting more replies. My classical resume presentation of Objective, Experience, and Education, etc. was just not passing through recruiting agency filters. Andy’s 40x50 approach re-organizes the information in a way that triggers scanning algorithms in use today. I enjoy having this advantage in today’s highly competitive job market!"

This resume is proven effective to get recruiters to email and call you about job requests.

In order to get through the ATS filters... YOU NEED TO ADD MORE DETAIL TO YOUR RESUME. No one reads every line on a resume, the computers do. The computer systems match keywords and some phrases. ADD MORE DETAIL.

There are 4 sections:

1. Top Section includes your contact information and summary of qualifications
2. The Second Section (clever right?!) includes a place to brag about everything you have done.
3. The Third section is where you put all your work history
4. The Fourth Section is where you put your certifications, education and client list
