A Christian Perspective for the Job Search

Earth from Space

The most important idea is this… God is in control.

You do not need a job! What you need is a way to take care of yourself and your family. You need to provide shelter, clean water, warmth, food and protection. In our current society that is most easily accomplished with a job.

God is in control

He is in control of everything. The bible says that he holds the very essence of the universe together with his will.

Col 1:17 17 He is before all things, and in him all things hold together.

Do not worry.

If God is in control (of everything) why are you worried about what He has in store for you? God promises to take care of your needs.

Luke 12:22-30 22Then Jesus said to his disciples: "Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat; or about your body, what you will wear. 23Life is more than food, and the body more than clothes. 24Consider the ravens: They do not sow or reap, they have no storeroom or barn; yet God feeds them. And how much more valuable you are than birds! 25Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life[a]? 26Since you cannot do this very little thing, why do you worry about the rest? 27"Consider how the lilies grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you, not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. 28If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today, and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, how much more will he clothe you, O you of little faith! 29And do not set your heart on what you will eat or drink; do not worry about it. 30For the pagan world runs after all such things, and your Father knows that you need them.

Keep Knocking

We cannot control what others have in mind when we interview, but we can control how many interviews we seek. Our part is to keep trying and refining our selves, our resumes, our interview techniques, our job performance. God opens the doors, we must take the initiative to walk through them.

No one has THE ANSWER to your job search, nor can anyone guarantee you a job. But, there are people who can help encourage you while you search.

Check back here often to get some insight into the job search and your part in finding a new job. Remember, the most important part is your prayer to God. He will open the door that He wants you to go through, for His purpose.

Are You Paid What You Are Worth?

NO, not ever. You are never paid what you are worth.

You are only paid what the job is worth.

A job description could be this: 7 feet tall, shoot 80% free-throws, get 10 rebounds per game and prevent other NBA centers from getting 10 rebounds and 10 points per game, pay - $15million per year plus bonuses.

Would you like that job? Heck Yea!

But you are probably not 7 foot tall and have not developed skills to shoot free throws or play defense, so you will not get that job.

What you CAN get is a job that matches your skills and abilities. We will help you maximize your effectiveness in matching a job that meets your current skills and abilities.

If you really want to make more money, find a job that pays more.

Do You Want A New Direction (Follow My Example)

If you want a new direction, you need to embrace change and be willing to listen to your critics/readers.

Here is my story,

It was pointed out to me that just reposting other people blogs has little value. Having a blog that is only re-posting other people content is the same as being a contemporary news channel. It only works if you are constantly on the edge of what is happening right now. The value is in delivering information (news) as it happens. It is a never ending cycle that cannot be changed. In essence it is just a different job.

My readers were more interested in what I have to say. I submitted a few posts that I had written and they commented how nice it was to "hear" my thoughts.

Well that came as a bit of a shock to me. No, really. I mean I'm not one who is at a loss for words (duh) and usually have an opinion about most any topic. But, the idea that they wanted to hear my thoughts was surprising.

So, in light of this new request, I will be writing my own thoughts and posting them. I promise to do a few things...

I will:

  • write my thoughts unashamedly
  • write clearly (as I can)
  • speak to one topic at a time
  • change my mind often
  • take both sides of an argument
  • argue on behalf of someone I despise
  • be respectful of every opinion but not agree with them
  • offend some
  • engage others
  • get out everything that I want to say
  • and hopefully start some interesting conversations.
  • Respectful yes, accommodating yes, tolerant no.

Constant Excellence is viewed by the world as mediocrity, so I expect to mess up constantly.

I have also changed my other blogs as well. You can find interesting things to read at the following blogs. I will be generating my own content.

Stay On The Train And Enjoy The Journey

Why Change?
Change is a necessary part of life.

Our hair grows, our skin grows and is replaced, our fingernails grow out and need to be cut. The weather changes and most people will change jobs 7-10 times in their working lives. Change is a necessary and fruitful part of our lives.

So why do we think that everything else in our life will stay static?

How often have you heard someone say, "now that ___ has happened, I can really start to focus on my _____" (job, hobby, losing weight, etc)? And it never happens.

Presenting Your Executive Climb to the Top | Career Rocketeer - Career Search and Personal Branding Blog

Many executives share similar career paths. One of these paths involves entering a company at a job relevant to your degree or experience, and climbing your way up the corporate ladder until you’re eventually running the place. Another path involves working for many different companies for a few years at a time, while regularly being courted away with a higher salary or greater responsibilities. Both of these career paths show that you’ve got what it takes to be an executive. Whichever path your career has followed, there’s a way to write your resume to show it off.
