High Trust: Use AI, Review Briefly
These are tasks where errors are low-cost, the information AI needs is available, and the output is easy to verify. Research synthesis from sources you can check. First drafts of documents where you will do a full edit anyway. Formatting, restructuring, and cleaning up content you will review before it goes anywhere. Brainstorming options you will evaluate with your own judgment. In these cases, let AI produce the output. Spend five minutes reviewing for obvious errors. Move on.
Medium Trust: Use AI, Verify Carefully
These are tasks where errors have moderate consequences, or where the output depends on context that AI may not have fully captured. Complex analyses where the methodology matters. Client-facing documents that go out under your name. Recommendations that will influence decisions others act on. In these cases, use AI for the preparation and the first draft, but give the output a serious review. Check the key claims. Verify any numbers. Make sure the framing matches the actual situation, not a plausible version of it.
Low Trust: Do It Yourself, Use AI for Support Only
These are tasks where errors are high-cost or hard to reverse, where the required context exists only in your head, or where accountability for the outcome is specifically yours. High-stakes judgment calls. Decisions that involve people you know and organizational dynamics you understand. Ethical calls. Anything where being wrong has real consequences and the error would be attributed to you. In these cases, do the core work yourself. Use AI to help with research prep, formatting, or drafting supporting materials. Keep the judgment in your hands.
